About SLA BaseballSLA baseball is an extremely solid team that knows how to play the game. They have evolved and developed some seriously solid pitching, excellent fielding, a dangerous offense from top to bottom and most importantly the team has some really cool guys. SLA is a huge family that started forming back in 2009, and they always support one another and pick each other up when needed. We are a serious team that functions as a unit and has been it tearing up as they climb from the lowest (D) to the highest (A) Public League Division. The Rockets just completed their 2nd consecutive undefeated regular season and have earned a spot in the top (A) division next season. Yet, they will won't be satisfied until the Philadelphia Public League City Title is in their hands. In 2015-16, The Rockets were the Cinderella Story of the decade having been the first team below A Division to make it to the City Final Four. They fell short, but have played with a chip on their collective shoulders and never left contention for the Title.

Douglas HermanMr. Herman. People know him as "Heisenberg", "Batman", even "Derek Jeter 2.0". This is the man, the myth, legend and Founding Coach of SLA Baseball. Back in 2009-10 he started SLA Baseball with a handful of young players who always dreamed of playing ball for their school. It was a rough start, as it normally is, but they've persevered through the past seven seasons to amass an impressive record of success. After losing their first eight games as a program the team gone 62-11 in the regular season, made the playoffs six straight seasons, and is currently on a 27 game regular season winning streak. Doug is obviously the head coach of the team, but he wouldn't have been successful in building this team without the amazing help of current and former players like Brandon Williams who has come back to help coach the JV team, now in its fourth season. He has always put his heart and soul into this program, both on and off the field which has included leading scores of fundraisers and connect with now Assistant Coach Dan Winterstein to ensure the Rockets has a home field at Mt. Airy Baseball. Herman needs to be recognized for what he has done for the Baseball team and the students of SLA. He will always be my hero and my favorite coach!
